Broken Promises
I faded.
Did it slowly over a year or so. First I stopped going out in field service, even though at the time I was still trying to believe that it was "the truth".
I got a promotion at work (yes me, a lowly sister!) which interferred with getting to meetings on time, so I slowly stopped the weekly meetings. Just Sundays, then the occasional Sunday.
Around this time I also got onto the internet and read Crisis of Conscience which answered the questions and doubts I'd been having. Tried to stay in but I just couldn't support something I didn't believe in anymore.
I went to the 2000 Memorial as a final ditch effort. It was so cold and unfeeling and I didn't believe in only 144k going to heaven anymore, so I knew I was making the right decision. I didn't go to another meeting after that.
I had a few phone calls during that time, but after a while I got the impression they were trying to see if I'd done anything wrong (which I hadn't) and screened my calls. Eventually they gave up.
I then moved to another state to start a new life away from the JWs.

They seem to be doing a pretty good job of defending themselves.
Israel's no better, either.

Remembering Our Dear Richard Rawe
by Dogpatch inrichard m. rawe was born may 10, 1934. he died in his sleep a little before midnight, october 26, 1012, in soap lake, washington.
his death was caused by probable acute myocardial infarction and cardiovascular disease.. in 1995, richard had a major stroke that left him with damage to his vocal cords.
previous to the stroke he had a beautiful speaking voice and was much in demand as a speaker in kingdom halls in the northwest when he was a jehovahs witness prior to 1975. in his later years, richard was the host with the raspy, croaky voice of the dialogue telephone conference-line program which hundreds of people listened to twice a month on saturday evening.. up until his death, richard was an attractive, partially balding, gray-haired man, still tall and elegant in appearance, who carried himself with class and dignity no matter how bad he physically felt.

I wasn't aware that he'd died.
Thanks for the update, Randy.

It's the holidays! You aren't a JW, but are you still a killjoy?
by JimmyPage indidn't you spend enough time sucking the fun out of the holidays?
why do a minority of ex-jws still need to point out self-righteously that the origins of these celebrations are sometimes less than desirable?
yes, we all know that the american indian was not treated well by the white man.

Theo/Miz,
You'll change when you have someone to share the holidays with.
I don't get into xmas in a big way but I do swap cards and buy gifts for close friends.

Deprogramming kids when JWs came knocking
by RayPublisher inso i had my two daughters with me this weekend (their jw mom has them the next one) and it was saturday morning around 10am and i said let's have a short "daddy school" on how to do research on the internet.
so they were plopped on each side of me and my laptop and i was inbetween and was showing them how you can type in "jehovah's witnesses" or "watchtower society" and get lots of vids off youtube on these things and that they can always do their own research if they have any questions on the things they hear at the kh when their mother takes them.. so we were watching one and right then there was a knock at the door and it was two teenage jw girls (from a neighboring cong) offering the magazines... very funny!
my oldest got rid of them and they were giggling and laughing about how weird it was that they would show up right then.. the jws are popping up everywhere in my life lately, ie, at the store, at the mall, at the gym, etc.

Aussie wasn't referring to anything to do with custody cases.
He was cautioning what the kids may say to their JW mother about what they did with him on the weekend, which may give her reason to indoctrinate their kids even more.

A JW mother and her children just came to my door......
by haboob48 infirst of all let me say that i choked!

didn't happen.

You can have in mind what you're going to say the next time JWs knock on your door, but you never know when they're going to be there, so it takes you by surprise.
It's not uncommon for your heart to start beating, your mind goes blank and all of those perfectly reasoned points you were going to say go straight out of your mind.
So don't feel bad if all you can say is "no thank you". It probably won't be the last time you speak to a JW. Nor is there any award for making the best argued point or for the number of JWs you bring out of the religion.

Did you feel guilty for not pioneering?
by brokethechain ini started pioneering the month i finished high school, and never stopped until i awakened, 17 years later.
it seems like the entire time, there was so much emphasis on pioneering.
every field service meeting seemed to have a part that communicated the message that jehovah would zap us at the big a. or people would die because of us if we didn't have extenuating circumstances (i always translated as bad health or kids, but even then, there were always "examples" of the mom with 5 kids that was pioneering).

Broken Promises
I used to feel guilty until I realised that no one else was going to pay my bills so what right did they have to expect me to pioneer?
On top of that, it's not a biblical requirement so I knew I wasn't doing anything wrong in not pioneering.
